The听CWB Association Toronto Chapter serves the Greater Toronto Area. We are an active chapter made up of committed volunteers from across various industry segments, representing over 5400 CWB Association Toronto Chapter members in the GTA.

We meet from October to April every year, normally on the first Tuesday of the month in Toronto. In addition, the Toronto Chapter holds an annual golf tournament in honour of Mike Cherry, raising proceeds for educational scholarships to encourage young people to join this exciting and rewarding industry!

CSA Standard W47.1 (2019)

The purpose of this presentation is to provide the audience with updates on what is being changed in the upcoming edition of CSA W47.1. The CSA W47.1 Technical Committee has agreed to the inclusion of new provisions for testing of welding personnel and procedures that will help fabricators welding steel materials less than 3mm thickness, stainless-steel materials of all thicknesses and for robotic welding applications. Also, in response to the request received from the marine welding industry the new edition of CSA W47.1 will have its own provisions for testing of welding personnel and procedures specific for Marine industry. All these new provisions that will be included in the new edition have been developed to help welding fabricators meet and exceed any other equivalent standards that are being used by the welding industry.

Topic 1 - Laser Beam Welding of Hot Press Forming Steel in automotive applications

Hadi will be discussing the application of tailor welded blanks (Laser beam welded) of ultra-high strength steel in automotive anti-crash components.

Topic 2 - Investigation of Rotational GMAW (SpinArc鈩) for Narrow-Gap Welding

Tyler & Caleb will be talking about 鈥淭he current study examines SpinArc Welding technology. First, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) process with SpinArc Welding technology is used to produce a 戮鈥 thick square groove butt joint weld. This procedure will be compared with a prequalified CSA-W59 Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) procedure of the same material thickness. In addition, a design of engineering experiment will be used to reveal the effects of various SpinArc parameters on the resultant weld geometry.鈥

Topic 3 - A Comparison of Shear Strength and Tensile Strength in High Strength Brazed Joints using High Temperature Braze Alloy

Welding is an industry that fuses our world: from planes, trains, automobiles and the majestic steel structures that make up the skyline of every major metropolitan city across Canada, Welding is the essential aspect of every construction phase. The Canadian Welding Association (CWA) Toronto Chapter is pleased to invite students from your school to attend our Student day. Students will learn about the vast career paths in the welding profession, see demos on Submerged Arc Welding and enjoy hands-on experience of welding some of the latest technologies. In addition, students will participate in the ultimate welding experience when they strike an arc on our virtual welding simulator. There will be friendly competitions, where the students will have a chance to win some prizes. It鈥檚 going to be a fun day filled with learning.听 We look forward to seeing you!

Comparative Review of Welding Standards Followed Around the World: CSA vs AWS & ISO

The purpose of this presentation is to provide the audience with a comparative review of these Standards鈥 requirements and an overview of their similarities and differences. While in Canada and US welding requirements are driven by the building code and product standards, in Europe the welding requirements are driven by legislation and product standards. This presentation will describe the building code and legislation requirements. Also, some examples will be given to show the requirements for qualification of welding personnel and welding procedures as outlined in these standards.
